Maine Fishing at its Finest

East Grand Lake is renowned for its land-locked salmon, lake trout, small mouth bass, and more.

Fishing in East Grand Lake

East Grand Lake has one of the best, if not the very best Landlocked Salmon fisheries in Maine. Trolling for salmon is great fun and these magnificent fish can be caught all season fishing at different depths depending on the water temperature. In 2019, we had several 24" fishing weighing in around 4 pounds caught with the "average" salmon being 18-22" in the 3 pound range.

Landlocked Salmon Fishing

If you are looking for unsurpassed Maine salmon fishing, our landlocked salmon fishing season starts strong each year in early May, and continues full strength through June.  In this early season, salmon anglers typically use either spincasting or fly-rod tackle to troll live smelts (or shiners), streamer flies, or mooselook wobblers.

Summer Salmon Fishing

Landlocked salmon swim deeper during the warmer months of July and August, and it takes a bit more effort to catch them.  Drift fishing, using leadcore line or downriggers, is the preferred salmon fishing technique.   During the warmer months when live smelts are no longer available, streamer flies, mooselook wobblers and shiner (minnows) are preferred. Excellent top-water salmon fishing resumes again in full strength when the water cools off in mid September.

Lake Trout

The Lake Trout (Togue) fishery is also very healthy with some very large fish being caught each season. These large fish typically live on the lake’s bottom as deep as 100’ and can be anywhere from 28-36" long, commonly weighing from 8-12 pounds...our local record was 26 pounds!

Smallmouth Bass

The Smallmouth Bass fishing has been described as the very best in the USA - and our legions of experienced Bass Fishermen will attest to catching upwards of 30-50 fish *per person* per day during the annual spawn. It is not uncommon to land fish up to 5 pounds - with the average being in the 2-2.5 pounds range. It is so much fun to "sight cast" for smallies in our crystal clear, boulder-filled lake - a unique experience.

Brook Trout

Brook Trout are also being caught in increasing size each year due to an aggressive stocking program that is working very nicely. We had several 14-16" brookies caught last season - this proves they are thriving in East Grand Lake; great news for all.

White Perch

White Perch fishing is also very popular - it is especially fun for kids to catch fish after fish directly from our dock and nearby rocks - making for loads of fun for all ages!
